Section 1. Installation

Overview

This section will guide you through the setup process of phpRealestate, the advanced solution for your own free or commercial real estate service. This section contains the following topics:

  • System requirements
  • Installation instructions

System requirements

Before installing phpRealestate make sure your server meets the following requirements:

Server side

The system requirements are:

· Unix/Linux/Windows Server OS

· Apache web server

· PHP 4.x

· MySQL

Client side
You can use one of the following OS and browsers:

· MS Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP with MS IE 5.5 and higher (JavaScript, cookies enabled) or Mozilla Firefox;

· Unix based OS (Linux, FreeBSD etc.) with Mozilla;

· Mac OS with Safari.

· Realestate is probably compatible with other OS and browsers, but we didn't test the script on them.

If you are not sure if your server meets these requirements, please check with your web hosting

Installation instructions

1.       Unpack the realestate-1.01.tar.gz file.

You will see the following directory structure and files:

/realestate-admin

/realestate-install

/realestate-libs

/realestate-modules

/realestate-templates

realestate-config.php

realestate-main.php

realestate.php

2.       Create a new directory on your server and name it appropriately (e.g., 'realestate').

3.       Change access permissions to the folders   /realestate to 777 (read/write/run for a user, read/write/run for a group, read/write/run for others)

4.       Upload the contents of the unzipped archive to the directory you've just created on the server.

5.       Change access permissions to the folders /realestate-templates and /realestate-templates/images to 777 (read/write/run for a user, read/write/run for a group, read/write/run for others)

6.       Change access permissions to the file /realestate-config to 666 (read/write for a user, read/write for a group, read/write for others)

7.       Fill in the relevant database information. This information can be found and modified in your web hosting Control Panel, or requested from your hosting administrators:

  - host name,

  - database name,

  - database user name,

  - database password.

This information is required to connect to your database and create an administrator account. You can create a new database using your web hosting control panel or use the existing database.

8.       Run the installation program: paste the following URL into your browser address bar http://YOUR-DOMAIN.COM/realestate/realestate-install

NOTE : replace 'YOUR-DOMAIN.COM' with your real site web address;

replace 'realestate' with your directory name created in step 2.

This URL (http://YOUR-DOMAIN.COM/realestate/realestate-install) is only an EXAMPLE, do not paste it exactly the same as it is here.

9.       Read and accept the agreement about using Realestate

10.   If you receive an error message about access permissions to files or folders, change them to 755 for folders (see step 4, 3 ) and 644 for files (see step 5) and start over.

11.   Fill out the form:

DB server - database hostname (type the appropriate value, see step 6)

DB name - database name (type the appropriate value, see step 6)

DB user - database user name (type the appropriate value, see step 6)

DB password - database password (type the appropriate value, see step 6)

Administrator password - password to access Admin interface

Retype password - confirm administrator password

Administrator e-mail - administration e-mail address. This address will be used in the contact form available for site visitors who would like to contact you about some real estate property.

12.   If you receive an error message while connecting to the database server, make sure the database is created, check the user name and password, and also check the user access rights to this database.

13.   Realestate is installed and ready to use. To log in to Admin CP, use the administrator user name and password entered in step 10.

14.   Delete the /realestate-install folder using FTP.
